Trails of Destruction

She stands alone

She stands alone with the ashes of all she knew

Blackening the laces that shelter her toes

Shattered glass screaming as her weight continues to strip them

The tingle in her nose caused from the stench of the fresh flame

And the whisper in her ear, piercing the decaying organ it was meant to protect

All are remnants of what once was

She walks alone

She walks alone into the destruction

of what used to be her room

The decimation of all her literature

Her sweet stuffed bear

Was left to nothing but a hair

Her vanity, which once held all the beauty in the world

Now resembled smut,

The summer smut that is clung to the creases of your toes

And the faces of your shoes

She was left with nothing but her own eyes looking back at her

She took a moment to analyze herself

The sweat from her face that dampened her hair

Grime that shadowed her face, trailing down her neck and onto her fingertips

Her hair that had bunched together

Into inseparable clumps

It too was lonely…

The stains in her clothes

The holes in her jacket

Exposing her to the darkness in the air

And the frown that felt oh so permanent

In the midst of all this despair

She seemed to be the only one to care

As her eyes begin to drown

And her heart begins to sink

Her forsaken demon and divine spirit

Finally begin

to interlink
